Our Work
Compassion in Action for Every Cat in the Community
At Community Cat Care, our work is rooted in hands-on service and heartfelt advocacy. From Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) to feeding programs, emergency medical care, and community education, we deliver lifesaving support where it’s needed most. Whether it’s a feral cat colony or a single stray in need, we respond with empathy, experience, and dedication—ensuring every cat gets the chance to live a safer, healthier life.
Medical Care
Community cats often face harsh conditions that lead to illness, injury, or chronic health problems. At Community Cat Care, we believe that no cat should suffer in silence. Our medical care program offers compassionate, timely, and often life-saving treatment to cats who would otherwise go unnoticed. Whether it’s treating infections, performing emergency surgeries, or providing supportive care for chronic conditions, we work hand-in-hand with local veterinarians to ensure that each cat receives the best possible attention. We prioritize spaying and neutering to prevent future suffering and conduct wellness checks for ongoing colony health. Every purr of recovery is a testament to the power of compassion and care.
Feeding & Shelter
Proper nutrition and protection from the elements are vital for the well-being of outdoor cats. Our feeding and shelter initiative ensures that community cats have access to consistent, clean food and fresh water year-round. With the help of volunteers and colony caregivers, we maintain feeding stations and distribute resources to those supporting local cats. We also provide weather-appropriate shelters—hand-built, insulated, and safe from predators—giving cats a warm refuge during cold Oregon winters and shade during hot summers. These simple acts of kindness drastically improve the quality of life for countless felines, giving them stability and dignity.
Adoption & Foster
While many community cats are happiest living outdoors, some—especially abandoned or socialized strays—are ideal candidates for adoption. Through our foster and adoption program, we identify friendly cats and kittens who can thrive in a home setting. After necessary medical care and socialization, we place them in loving foster homes where they can heal, adjust, and prepare for adoption. Each match is made with care, ensuring that our rescued cats go to safe, compassionate homes. Whether it’s a shy kitten blossoming under foster care or an older cat finding a cozy windowsill to call their own, we celebrate every successful placement as a true rescue victory.
Hands-On, Heart-Led: Caring for Every Cat, Every Day
At Community Cat Care, our work is rooted in compassion, driven by action, and sustained by community. We don’t just advocate for change—we create it, through direct services that improve the lives of community cats across Wasco, Oregon and beyond. From hands-on rescue efforts to long-term care, education, and advocacy, our programs are designed to offer hope where there once was none.
Here’s a closer look at what we do—and why it matters.
Medical Care
Healing the Hurt, Saving Lives
Every cat deserves access to basic medical care, no matter where they were born. Whether treating infected wounds, performing spay/neuter surgeries, or addressing chronic illness, our medical team ensures that injured or sick community cats receive the help they need. With the support of compassionate veterinarians and donors, we give these animals a real chance at recovery—and a better future.
Feeding & Shelter
Comfort and Nourishment in Every Season
Surviving outdoors is hard. That’s why we provide clean, consistent feeding stations and weather-resistant shelters across our region. With the help of colony caretakers, we ensure cats have access to fresh food, water, and protection from the elements. This basic care reduces illness, improves longevity, and gives cats the dignity of a safe space they can rely on.
Adoption & Foster
From the Streets to Forever Homes
Some cats were never meant to live outdoors—especially kittens, senior cats, and those who have been socialized to humans. Through our foster and adoption program, we rescue vulnerable cats, nurture them in loving homes, and place them with families who will give them the life they deserve. Every successful adoption is a fresh start and a testament to the power of second chances.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)
Smart, Humane Population Control
At the heart of our work is TNR: the only proven, humane solution to overpopulation. Our trained volunteers safely trap community cats, transport them to veterinary partners for spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations, and return them to their colonies. This approach stops the breeding cycle, improves the health of existing cats, and reduces the number of kittens born into suffering.
Education & Outreach
Building a More Compassionate Future
We believe lasting change starts with knowledge. That’s why we’re committed to educating the public about the needs of community cats and the best practices for their care. Through workshops, neighborhood outreach, school programs, and social media campaigns, we empower people to become part of the solution—because when people understand, they act.
Community Collaboration
Working Together for Greater Impact
We partner with local animal shelters, veterinary clinics, schools, businesses, and government entities to build a network of support. These partnerships allow us to expand our reach, respond to crises faster, and ensure that no cat—or caregiver—has to face these challenges alone.
Our Impact So Far
- Hundreds of cats spayed and neutered through TNR
- Dozens of cats and kittens placed in loving homes
- Thousands of meals provided to outdoor cat colonies
- Countless lives improved—both feline and human
